About Me

Hi, my name’s Marco and I’m from Italy. I use this website to share notes and personal thoughts about anything related to mathematics and computing: the only two things I know something about. This may include topics such as system administration, computer security or college-level mathematics.

I’ve been publishing this website since around 2016 when I was just 15 and was taking my first steps into these two fascinating fields. Since then, it has connected me with people from all over the world: some got in touch just to ask a few questions or to point out a typo while others turned into deeper conversations, some of which are still ongoing today.

Interests

• Mathematics: convex optimization and real/functional analysis;
• Computing: Linux and system programming;
• Other: Neuroscience and music.

What I use

Surprisingly, my involvement with technology is pretty limited, using only the bare minimum to get things done and preferring boring, simple and reliable solutions over shiny new things. Below you will find a non-exhaustive list of the technology that I daily drive, ordered from the most used to the least used:

• Hardware:
  1. A5 notebooks (paper): yes, paper. you read it right. I use these to organize my math notes;
  2. ThinkPad T490 (2019): my daily drive, it does everything I need;
  3. iPhone 12 (2020): iPhones are the only Apple products I actually like since they receive nearly a decade of software updates;
  4. WD Red Pro: I use a bunch of these bad boys for cold storage;
  5. MacBook Air M2 (2022): bought for a specific project and never used again since. It is now on the bottom of a drawer collecting dust.
• Software:
  1. Debian (stable): my operating system of choice. I use it for both my computer and my servers;
  2. Firefox: the only browser that’s still worth using;
  3. Emacs: for all kind of text editing;
  4. LaTeX: for the rare occasions when I have to share my handwritten math notes;
  5. Python and C: my languages of choice (rarely programming anymore, though).
